About Word Generator

Word Generator is a free collection of word tools: a random word generator, a word unscrambler, name and password generators, word games, and browsable word lists by length and letter. Everything runs in your browser — no sign-up, no app, no cost.

Where our words come from

Every list on this site is built from ENABLE, a public-domain English lexicon designed for word games. We filter it to words of 2–15 letters and remove offensive terms, which leaves exactly 168,401 words. A separate frequency-ranked list of 8,112 common words is used wherever recognisable results matter more than exhaustive ones — it is why the random generator suggests words you actually know, and why every word list shows familiar words first. Each list page states its exact count, and the full lexicon is openly downloadable at /assets/words.txt if you want to check our arithmetic.

How the tools are built

The site is deliberately simple: static pages, with every generator and solver running client-side in your browser. Nothing you type into a tool is sent to us. The one exception is the optional games leaderboard, which stores a first name and a score, and nothing else. Passwords from the password generator are created on your device and never transmitted.

Who makes it

Word Generator is published by TheMediaFlow Ltd (registered in England, company no. 06769171) and edited by Louisa Lowe, who looks after the word lists, the tools and our word-game guides. Our editorial rule for the guides is simple: wherever a guide states a number, we compute it from our own word list rather than repeating someone else's figure, so every claim can be checked against the data we publish.
