Hangman
Guess the hidden word one letter at a time. Six wrong guesses and it's game over — how many words can you get in a row?
How to play
- Guess letters with the on-screen keys or your keyboard.
- You have six wrong guesses per word.
- Solve a word to keep your streak going; your best streak is saved on this device.
Hangman strategy
Open with vowels and the most common consonants. In English the letters that turn up most often are E, T, A, O, I, N, S and R — spend your early guesses there before risking a rare letter like q or z. Almost every word has a vowel, so finding one quickly reveals its rhythm.
Then use the gaps you uncover. A letter, a blank and another letter is often a common pair such as th or ch, and many words end in -ing, -ed or -er. Longer words give each correct guess more places to appear, so one common letter can light up several boxes at once. With only six lives, hold your wild guesses until the pattern is clear.
About the game
Hangman is a classic paper-and-pencil guessing game that has been played in classrooms for generations — a quick, low-tech way to practise spelling and letter recognition. This version keeps the same rules and saves your best winning streak on your own device. For a puzzle where some letters are filled in to start you off, try the missing letters game.
